The Coming Reformation of the Church
For quite a few years now, I have been hearing from God that there is a reformation coming to the Church, bigger than any seen before. God is taking back His Church from man. Jesus said, “I will build My church” (Matthew 16:18). Not man, but God. It is not man’s Church; it belongs to God. We belong to Jesus Christ.
For too long, the Church has been doing things man’s way, and Jesus has been standing at the door, knocking and longing to come in. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock” (Revelation 3:20). Instead, in much of the Church today, Jesus is standing at the door, and they are ignoring His knocking. For some churches, the Lord has left and is not even at the door anymore, and for those churches, they will simply close and be no more. Others are at the point of decision and have no clue as to the consequences of the wrong decision.
When the Lord decides to walk away, it is time up, and for many, it is getting close to time up. They struggle to decide through fear, but it is fear of losing what they think they have. But should they decide to let Jesus walk away, they lose anyway. Then what they have goes away. Jesus warned the church at Ephesus, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place” (Revelation 2:5).
So many church leaders are following the call and not the One who called them. They are building their version of a vision that came from God but became confused with opinion instead of instruction. So many have good ideas, when God has no ideas, just a plan and His instruction on how He wants it carried out. “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21).
This is where the reformation is coming. God is about to take away man’s plans for how the Church should be built. It will no longer be church on Sunday, Bible study on a weekday, and prayer every other week where so few even come. God’s Church will be 24/7/365. “They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42). “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple” (Acts 2:46).
Many congregations will begin to merge to get the job done. The idea—man’s idea—of denominations will become extinct, and there will be one Church, all following Jesus. Jesus prayed, “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You” (John 17:21).
Leaders will become followers, and congregations will find a new freedom to do God’s will without fear of man. “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). The structure will be based on love and not control, and the Holy Spirit will not only be heard; He will be leading, and everyone else will be following Him. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
This is true unity of the Spirit, where every soul stops trying to unite to each other, but unites together with the Holy Spirit. “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). This is the Church following Jesus Christ—not man building his version of the Church, but Jesus building His Church.
